Frequently Asked Questions
I need to convert portraits for an entire school. How can I make the micropayments in the program more of a 1-click process?
Information like your name and email address will be retained in the shopping cart interface on your computer, so that you do not need to re-enter it repeatedly. Your credit card number is not saved to protect your security. But you can simply copy the credit card number and paste it in each time to avoid needing to type it in repeatedly.
Can I increase the stereoscopic pop-out?
Yes. The more parallax there is in foreground objects, the more they will seem to pop out in front of the lenticular print. "Parallax" refers to lateral movement relative to other things in the scene: if each eye sees the object in the same place, the object appears to be on the print. But as a foreground object shifts in the views seen by each eye, your brain concludes that the object must be nearer than the print (like a hologram). There are several ways to enhance this effect. (i) Moving the camera Much Closer in the settings panel will cause larger lateral movement in the foreground object. That is the simplest approach (although you need a lot of margin around the foreground object to do this). (ii) Alternatively, you can get the same effect by using more rotation and/or fewer frames, which can also cause larger lateral movement in the foreground.
The software left part of a face in the background. Can I bring it back with the fine detail brush on the Foreground panel?
This works sometimes, depending on the color contrast between the foreground and background. But if it doesn't work, or if you remove too much when getting fine detail on the Foreground and Background panels, a simple solution is that you can just go back to the Remove FG/BG panel an add to the marking you already did.
There is an error message in the settings panel, and I cannot press the Reset button to restore the settings to their default values. What should I do?
Every time you make adjustments in the Settings Panel, a new 3D wireframe is rendered. There are occasionally times when you may make a combination of adjustments that has never come up in the extensive de-bugging and error testing that has been done. Don't worry; there is a simple solution if the program appears to crash like this. Your settings are stored in a text file in C:\ProgramFiles\2D-3D so that you can continue to use the same settings the next time you start the program. Just close the program, delete this text file (2D-3Dphoto.xml) and the program will generate a new default text file when you re-open it.
Why does the person's face look flat on my computer screen?
The face is flat on purpose, for two reasons. (1) Changing the shape in different views causes the print to not look as sharp. But when you do the print, the lenticular lens will create stereoscopic depth that enhances the three-dimensionality in the print, even though the print looks flat on an ordinary LCD screen. (2) When doing high-volume conversions, you don't want to spend large amounts of time doing modeling to sculpt features like the nose, chin, cheeks, eyes, brow and hair on each face individually.
What settings cause the background to appear less blurry or stretched?
Since we don't know what picture you are going to use in the background, there sometimes need to be some adjustments to get the effect you want for the background. If you keep the background distance to low values like 20, not 50 or more, the background is flatter and stretched less. Using a lower setting for the camera angle causes more linear movement in the background. Also, if the foreground picture is in portrait orientation, the background will be distorted less if it is in the same orientation. Using a person's photo in portrait mode, and a background in landscape mode causes the background to have to be changed in aspect ratio (since both have to be in the same final picture).
